Zambian Breweries Plc in partnership with the National Arts Council has launched the K1 billion Mosi Lager Zambian Music Awards aimed at recognising excellence in the Zambian music industry.

The first awards show slated for February 22 2013 will see the best of Zambian music talent awarded after public nominations which opens on December 14 2012.

Some of the Zambian Music Awards (ZAMA) categories include Afro beat, Zed beats, Kalindula, Dance hall, Rhythm and Blues, Praise and Worship, Jazz and Rhumba, Song of the Year and Produce of the Year.

Music fans will be given a chance to vote for their favourite artistes by sending an SMS to 6767 or by voting online at www.zambianmusicawards.com

The Mosi Lager Zambian Music awards were launched in Lusaka last evening at a glittering event at Intercontinental Hotel attended by some of the country?s finest musicians.

At the event, National Arts Council of Zambia Director Victor Makashi paid tribute to Zambian Breweries Plc for partnering with the council in launching the awards which are the first single discipline awards.

Mr. Makashi observed that the newly launched awards will lessen the pressure on the Ngoma awards which are multi discipline awards as most Musicians will go for the Mosi Lager Zambian music awards.

He also advised musicians to take their music seriously and refrain from using unpalatable lyrics in their songs.

The NAC Director warned the musicians that unpalatable language in their music will only win them airplay in bars and minibuses.
Mr. Makashi further commended government for creating a Ministry responsible for the development of the arts sector in the country.

And Zambian Breweries Plc Managing Director Anele Malumo said Zambian Breweries continues to make a difference through beer by investing in communities.

Mr. Malumo also appealed to all musicians countrywide to be the social and cultural conscious of the Zambian society and be role models of the youth through responsible lifestyles.

Officiating at the event, Arts and Tourism Deputy Minister Keith Mukata said arts and culture if nurtured well has the potential to create millions of jobs especially for the young people.

Mr. Mukata implored musicians to use their talents well and not fall prey to vices such as drugs and alcohol abuse because of fame.

He also advised all the parties that will be involved in the Mosi Lager Zambian Music awards to ensure transparency and accountability throughout the process.

CHICAGO (AP) ? Zac Vawter considers himself a test pilot. After losing his right leg in a motorcycle accident, the 31-year-old software engineer signed up to become a research subject, helping to test a trailblazing prosthetic leg that's controlled by his thoughts.

He will put this groundbreaking bionic leg to the ultimate test Sunday when he attempts to climb 103 flights of stairs to the top of Chicago's Willis Tower, one of the world's tallest skyscrapers.

If all goes well, he'll make history with the bionic leg's public debut. His whirring, robotic leg will respond to electrical impulses from muscles in his hamstring. Vawter will think, "Climb stairs," and the motors, belts and chains in his leg will synchronize the movements of its ankle and knee. Vawter hopes to make it to the top in an hour, longer than it would've taken before his amputation, less time than it would take with his normal prosthetic leg ? or, as he calls it, his "dumb" leg.

A team of researchers will be cheering him on and noting the smart leg's performance. When Vawter goes home to Yelm, Wash., where he lives with his wife and two children, the experimental leg will stay behind in Chicago. Researchers will continue to refine its steering. Taking it to the market is still years away.

"Somewhere down the road, it will benefit me and I hope it will benefit a lot of other people as well," Vawter said about the research at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago.

Bionic ? or thought-controlled ? prosthetic arms have been available for a few years, thanks to pioneering work done at the Rehabilitation Institute. With leg amputees outnumbering people who've lost arms and hands, the Chicago researchers are focusing more on lower limbs. Safety is important. If a bionic hand fails, a person drops a glass of water. If a bionic leg fails, a person falls down stairs.

The Willis Tower climb will be the bionic leg's first test in the public eye, said lead researcher Levi Hargrove of the institute's Center for Bionic Medicine. The climb, called "SkyRise Chicago," is a fundraiser for the institute with about 2,700 people climbing. This is the first time the climb has played a role in the facility's research.

To prepare, Vawter and the scientists have spent hours adjusting the leg's movements. On one recent day, 11 electrodes placed on the skin of Vawter's thigh fed data to the bionic leg's microcomputer. The researchers turned over the "steering" to Vawter.

He kicked a soccer ball, walked around the room and climbed stairs. The researchers beamed.

Vawter likes the bionic leg. Compared to his regular prosthetic, it's more responsive and more fluid. As an engineer, he enjoys learning how the leg works.

It started with surgery in 2009. When Vawter's leg was amputated, a surgeon repositioned the residual spaghetti-like nerves that normally would carry signals to the lower leg and sewed them to new spots on his hamstring. That would allow Vawter one day to be able to use a bionic leg, even though the technology was years away.

The surgery is called "targeted muscle reinnervation" and it's like "rewiring the patient," Hargrove said. "And now when he just thinks about moving his ankle, his hamstring moves and we're able to tell the prosthesis how to move appropriately."

To one generation it sounds like "The Six Million Dollar Man," a 1970s TV show featuring a rebuilt hero. A younger generation may think of Luke Skywalker's bionic hand.

But Hargrove's inspiration came not from fiction, but from his fellow Canadian Terry Fox, who attempted a cross-country run on a regular artificial leg to raise money for cancer research in 1980.

"I've run marathons, and when you're in pain, you just think about Terry Fox who did it with a wooden leg and made it halfway across Canada before cancer returned," Hargrove said.

Experts not involved in the project say the Chicago research is on the leading edge. Most artificial legs are passive. "They're basically fancy wooden legs," said Daniel Ferris of the University of Michigan. Others have motorized or mechanical components but don't respond to the electrical impulses caused by thought.

"This is a step beyond the state of the art," Ferris said. "If they can achieve it, it's very noteworthy and suggests in the next 10 years or so there will be good commercial devices out there."

The $8 million project is funded by the U.S. Department of Defense and involves Vanderbilt University, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the University of Rhode Island and the University of New Brunswick.

Vawter and the Chicago researchers recently took the elevator to the 103rd floor of the Willis Tower to see the view after an afternoon of work in the lab. Hargrove and Vawter bantered in the elevator in anticipation of Sunday's event.

Hargrove: "Am I allowed to trash talk you?"

"It's fine," Vawter shot back. "I'll just defer it all to the leg that you built."

At the top, Vawter stood on a glass balcony overlooking the city. The next time he heads to the top, he and the bionic leg will take the stairs.

    Google Nexus 4 hands-on (video)

    Google Nexus 4 handson

So here it is at last, the Nexus 4. After countless leaks we finally got a chance to put our dirty little paws on Google and LG's lovechild. The verdict? It's simply phenomenal. By combining the nicest elements of the Optimus G with the latest iteration of Jelly Bean (Android 4.2) the two companies have created something that's better than the sum of its parts. Like its cousin, the Nexus 4 is built around Qualcomm's speedy 1.5GHz quad-core Snapdradon S4 Pro SoC with Adreno 320 graphics and 2GB of RAM. Storage comes in 8GB and 16GB flavors with no microSD expansion. It features the same lovely 4.7-inch 1280x768-pixel non-PenTile IPS display but sheds LTE support for an unlocked pentaband DC-HSPA+ (42Mbps) radio and wireless charging. On the camera front the Nexus 4 inherits the Optimus G's optional eight-megapixel BSI sensor and f/2.4 autofocus lens, instead of the fancier 13 MP shooter. WiFi b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, A-GPS, NFC and Miracast round up the spec sheet, and a sealed 2100mAh Li-polymer battery completes the package.

Aesthetically, the Nexus 4 blends aspects of the Optimus G and Galaxy Nexus designs, with a glass-covered back and rounded-off top and bottom edges. This phone looks and feels great -- materials and build quality are much improved over last year's handset. At 9.1mm (0.36 inches) thin and 131g (0.31 pounds), it's also very comfortable in hand. Most of the controls are unchanged from its cousin -- you'll find a standard 3.5mm headphone jack and secondary mic on top, a volume rocker and micro-SIM tray on the left, a micro-USB port and primary mic on the bottom, and a power / lock button on the right side. The Optimus G's capacitive keys give way to on-screen buttons and the RGB notification light moves below the screen (from its former position near the 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera). Overall we're really impressed with the Nexus 4, and that's just from playing with the hardware. Sadly, we spent very little time exploring the software, which includes a plethora of improvements, so keep an eye out for the details in our full review.

You'll be able to purchase the Nexus 4 unlocked in the Play Store starting November 13th for $299 (8GB), $349 (16GB) or $199 with a two-year contract on T-Moble (16GB). Until then, check out the gallery below, then hit the break for our hands-on video.

Brad Molen contributed to this report.

Sedgwick County lobbies for more money for Judge Riddel Boys ...

The push to keep the Judge Riddel Boys Ranch open continued Monday when Sedgwick County officials met with state leaders about additional money for the program that serves juvenile offenders.

County Manager William Buchanan, director of government relations Marv Duncan and corrections director Mark Masterson met with acting Juvenile Justice Authority commissioner Terri Williams as well as the secretaries of the Department for Aging and Disability Services and the Department for Families and Children.

The contingency later met with the governor?s chief of staff.

?We?ve had two meetings regarding this subject. Both have been helpful and productive,? Buchanan said Monday afternoon.

No one from the state promised additional funding for the ranch, ?but we did not expect commitments today,? Buchanan said.

Buchanan earlier this year recommended closing the ranch to reduce the county?s deficit.

County commissioners voted in August to keep the ranch open another year so the county could work with legislators to get more money for the juvenile residential facility.

The ranch had cost the county about $1.5 million a year to operate. The state gave the county $126 per day per boy, but the actual cost was $204.

To keep the ranch open, the county reduced the bed capacity for the youth residential facility from 49 beds to 42, cut staff and moved to 12-hour shifts instead of eight hours.

The county also ditched a plan for a youth day reporting program and decreased a raise pool from 3 to 2.5 percent.

Buchanan said he will talk about the meeting with commissioners and staff Tuesday.

(AP) ? Italy risks heading into political turmoil after a regional election showed a huge level of voter distrust in mainstream political parties, a result that could also rattle financial markets that have no small role in deciding the fate of the economically troubled nation.

A protest party candidate from a movement launched by a TV comic made a strong showing in Sicilian elections Sunday, a vote seen as a test of popular sentiment before nationwide polls in the spring to replace the government of Premier Mario Monti. The Sicily vote also was marked by sharply lower turnout, down to 47 percent of eligible voters from 67 percent in the 2008 regional elections.

The populist Five Star Movement garnered 18 percent of the vote ? not enough to win the governorship because other parties ran in alliances, but still making it the top vote-getting party and a force to be reckoned with. Movement leader Beppe Grillo attracted large audiences with his attacks on Monti's austerity policies and the seemingly endemic corruption among Italy's major political parties.

"Without doubt this result is not positive for market confidence and increases uncertainty ahead of the general election next spring," said an analysis by economists Chiara Corsa and Loredana Federico for UniCredit, Italy's largest bank.

Monti's government of technocrats imposed a painful austerity program and has started in on reforms that together have succeeded in bringing down Italy's borrowing costs, which had skyrocketed when his predecessor, media magnate Silvio Berlusconi, lost the confidence of markets that he could bring Italy's finances under control and balance the budget.

Italy's benchmark 10-year bond yield rose Monday after the release of the Sicilian election results ? from 4.85 percent to 4.94 percent, a sign that investors have become somewhat more cautious about the country's financial future. The bond yield edged back only marginally to 4.92 percent on Tuesday.

But Monti's term ends in the spring and he has ruled out running for premier, although he has left the door open for a second term if no party wins a clear majority and he is tapped to head another government. There has also been talk of Monti serving as finance minister in a government next year, a move that would also please Italy's eurozone partners.

Monti, speaking at a conference of the World Economic Forum in Rome on Tuesday, directed himself to Italy's political class as he sketched a picture underlining the virtue of unpopular ? but necessary ? policy.

"The really important thing is, we have done very unpleasant things, unpleasant things for the receivers and even unpleasant for the doers. The perception of what this government is doing is not fully good. But it is higher than that of any of the parties," Monti said.

"This is an important message for future governments: Do not believe that you cannot do the right policies, otherwise you risk your position in the future," he said.

A further unknown is Berlusconi's intentions. He had been supporting Monti's government and recently suggested he planned to retire from politics.

But the 76-year media magnate may have changed his mind after a court in Milan convicted him Friday of tax fraud. He attacked Monti, complained that Germany had too much control over Italy's economic decisions, and said he would stay in politics to reform the justice system.

Political analyst Massimo Franco, writing in the leading Corriere della Sera, said Italy is paying the price for Berlusconi's "sad decadence and his system of power." He also wrote that the Sicilian election result is a warning that the country risks becoming ungovernable.

The Key To A Happy And Successful Relationship: Let Your Man ...

The Key To A Happy And Successful Relationship: Let Your Man Cheat

A man cheats with a mere 105 women and you just gon up and leave him??At least that?s the assertion put forth by American sociologist Dr. Eric Anderson author of?The Monogamy Gap: Men, Love, and the Reality of Cheating. The Huffington Post conducted an on-line interview with Dr. Anderson, which you can read in full here:?Why Men Need to Cheat.

Dr. Anderson argues that monogamy is not natural for most people, especially men. In his opinion, and I agree, most men can sleep around without developing significant emotional attachment to women outside of their relationship. While this does not account for all men, some committed men simply want to sleep around without the intention of ever developing a connection beyond the physical, what he calls ?recreational sex.? Huffington Post writes:

[Dr. Anderson] wonders why we stigmatize someone who has a fling more than couples who divorce ? throwing away a marriage rich in history and love, upsetting their kids? lives ? over something like sex.

Whether you agree monogamy is natural or unnatural, for men or women, I think we can all agree monogamy is a choice and so is infidelity. However, Dr. Anderson?s theory is that if you choose to cheat sexually, but not emotionally, it should not be the sole justification to terminate an otherwise happy and?successful?relationship. Since most men cannot have the best of both worlds, they choose the selfish route ? cheating physically, while remaining faithful emotionally. Observing this phenomenon, Dr. Anderson sought to understand why habitually unfaithful men would even want monogamous relationships in the first place. A quote from the article:

Cheating, however, serves men pretty well. An undiscovered affair allows them to keep their relationship and emotional intimacy, and even if they?re busted it?s a lot easier than admitting that they wanted to screw someone else in the first place.

The good doctor alleges that men, even unfaithful men, desire emotional commitment. It is the physical commitment they struggle with because men are naturally designed to crave sex with other women. For example, his non-statistical study of 120 undergrads showed enjoyment of monogamous sex dipped precipitously after only two years. Assuming these are not leap years, that?s a mere 730 days for those of you keeping track at home. In summary:

The reason men lie about cheating is mostly because they know that if they ask for permission to have recreational sex: 1) they will be denied 2) after they are denied, they will be subject to scrutiny and increased relationship policing; 3) they will be stigmatized as immoral, and most likely broken up with. Thus, honesty doesn?t meet their desires of having both a long-term partner and recreational sex with others.

The way cheating men see it, it?s either cheat or don?t cheat, but telling their partners they want sex outside the relationship, or telling their partners that they actually cheated, is viewed as a surefire way of achieving relationship termination. When men cheat for recreational sex ? not affairs ? they DO love their partners. If they didn?t, they would break up with them.

John Legend, who is not a doctor, covered this subject years earlier in his song?Number One?where he croons the following romantic lyrics, ?You can?t say I don?t love you, Just because I cheat on you, Cuz you can?t see all I do, To keep you from knowing the things I do, Like erase my phone, And keep it out of town, I keep it strapped up when I sleep around.?

As a man, the only thing shocking about Dr. Anderson?s (and John Legend) theories on monogamy and infidelity is the fact that they are so accurate. They correctly explain how unfaithful men justify their actions but that doesn?t mean the actions of unfaithful men should be defended?or should they?

Hmmm? So you?ve read it, this is very interesting and I?d just like your views on this, men, women of the TNC community what do you think, should we women allow our men to cheat just because they can? And also, how does this apply to women? The doctor did say ?most people? are not monogamous so lets not skew this to just men. You know the drill, use the comment box and express you.

Internet Marketing Tips For Any Skill Level | One Way Links Site Blog

You don?t want to just throw your item out into that vast Internet ocean without preparation. It might sink, not swim. Perhaps it is a craft item. You have to get the opinion of trusted sources and know all of the details. The information below offers helpful advice on how to best organize your business to become successful.

The Internet is not the only place to use Internet marketing. Try reaching out regularly to bloggers, and them to attend a conference you are hosting to meet them in person. This can build a community among those who run online businesses or blogs.

Any advertisement, no matter what it is for, will be improved by using descriptive terms that attract people with the promise of instant gratification. Emphasize the speed and ease of use of your company to grow your business. This can help download times, have a good time with checkout, and confirm your orders.

HTML tags are crucial for highlighting content on your website. These tags are used to indicate key content on the page and makes it appear bold. Search engine bots will rank your page according to tags. Be sure to emphasize the important keywords.

Be very careful with making bold claims and promises in your Internet ads. Many people are used to years of advertising that was not true. If you want people to believe your business is better than another competitor out there, you need to provide tangible evidence that people can see. Consider using customer reviews and testimonials, as well as pictures, on your website. Be sure you can prove any claim you make. Don?t mistake your customers for naive or ill-informed people. Don?t take advantage of people. Your willingness to conduct open and honorable business practices will garner you a loyal following of customers who will share word of your services with their family and friends.

Find something that can serve as your niche and will give your site a unique quality. This will help you bring your niche target audience to your website. Even if visitors don?t buy anything, their visits will show proof to the search engines that your site is relevant.

Contemplate the various methods you are interested in using in your web design efforts. There are many options for free and low-cost ad techniques, such as on a blog or your social networking site. There are quite a few ways to drive traffic to your website. Just get creative!

It?s now possible to do business anonymously thanks to the internet. This tactic is especially successful for small or individually owned and operated businesses that rely on and can offer personal relationships in selling.

Your banner ads should stand out from the crowd as much as possible. The more appealing and original your banner ad appears, the more people you?ll have clicking on it.

Put some banners on your header, make sure they do not look like a banner. Try to make them appear like clickable links to get more content. A lot of people are wary of ads, this will attract them.

Be as content focused and through as you can when you create a website. You should concentrate on building the knowledge of your customers so they are informed about their purchase. Avoid repeating descriptions or including useless data that is not interesting to the customer.

You can make a great impression by including a banner showing your business name, mission statement or slogan. Banners are generally displayed along the top of a website or just under the title. This can help new visitors get a quick idea of what your company is all about. It can be an easy way for them to learn what services you provide.

You should always remember that headlines sell when writing, so always use them in your promotional materials. Make them attention-getting and related to what you provide on your website. If you want to catch their eye, incorporate a graphic of the item you desire to sell. Professional graphics offer a sophisticated alternative to mere words.

To make your internet business a success, take the time to evaluate the competition. Compare the web pages of your competitors to garner ideas on things that may work for you too. If you notice major gaps in the offerings on other sites, make them a point of pride on your own site in order to distinguish yourself from the crowd.

Marketing on the Internet is essential to any business today that wants to be successful. Each and every business must consider using this method of marketing. By including these tips in business plan, you will maintain high visibility on the Internet and increase the profitability of your business.

5 stars Modry Efekt was one of the leading progressive rock bands not only from Czechoslovakia in the '70 but aswell from enntire eastern Europe. In 1979 they released what was and still is one of the best progressive rock albums of all times - Svet Hledacu ? World of Searchers. This album is really a masterpice, is a turbulent album where each musician shines, specially the head of the band and one of the most inventive guitarist I've ever came across Radim Hlad?k, absolutly stunning guitar player. So, to my ears this is heavy prog with some spacey moments added in the mix like on opening track, amazing combination that goes very well in the end, the guitar, keyboards and the voice is brilliant. Less jazzy then previous works, this album has it all, from odd tempo changes, very solid guitar chops, long complicated passages where everything is well done, compose and performed. Every piece is a winner for sure, not a second of weakness here, the beautiful Hled?m sv? vlastn? j?, the crimsonesque atmosphere on Z?zrak jedn? noci and Rajky with powerfull and energic playing make from this album a tresure. I was hit like a train when I heared this album few years ago, and now after some spining is no diffrent, one of the best album in my collction and one of my fav aswell. The musicianship is top notch, the arrangements and al aswell excellent. The Cd re issue by Bonton is ok, with 6 bonus tracks that are far less great then original album. 5 stars easy, highly recommended and for sure one of the hidden treasures of prog rock from Eastern Europe and among the most captivating albums from late '70s, a must have album for sure..

Why Volts built on Mars are possible -- in an ... - Automotive News

    NICK BUNKLEY

    October 26, 2012 - 2:19 pm ET

I hear General Motors is planning to lay off thousands of workers in Detroit and move production of the Chevrolet Volt to Mars.

This is obviously more bad news for Detroit, which will then be left with nothing but three guys shivering around a burn barrel and recently was named the Most Dangerous City in America to Be a Third Base Coach in the World Series.

Sure, a car factory on Mars, where the lack of oxygen means healthcare costs are sky-high, makes no sense, but who cares? It's almost Election Day. Now is not the time to start letting facts and accuracy get in the way of a good campaign rally.

Republican candidate Mitt Romney told some 12,000 people at an Ohio rally Thursday that Fiat-controlled Chrysler is considering moving all Jeep production from the United States to China. That would be a devastating blow to a state that ? in between visits from presidential candidates ? has built Jeeps since the 1940s.

"I saw a story today that one of the great manufacturers in this state, Jeep ? now owned by the Italians ? is thinking of moving all production to China," Romney said in Defiance, Ohio. "I will fight for every good job in America. I'm going to fight to make sure trade is fair, and if it's fair America will win."

Romney's statement, which was immediately followed by an endorsement from Meat Loaf, begs two responses:

    1. Moving to China sounds pretty good to me at this point. Nothing makes communism more appealing than having to endure election year in a democracy. Also, you don't have to worry about Meat Loaf suddenly showing up in China.

    2. It's completely false.

Chrysler and "the Italians" are indeed thinking of building Jeeps in China. But only to sell in China and perhaps other developing countries in that part of the world.

Chinese-made Jeeps would not be sold in the United States. And no American jobs would be displaced as a result. Building vehicles in the region of the world where they are sold is common practice in today's global auto industry, and very few vehicles are imported into China from elsewhere.

Chrysler wants to build Jeeps in China, the world's largest auto market, in order to grow its sales in China. That would increase Chrysler's profits, which would flow back to its headquarters in the United States, where it could theoretically hire more workers and pay them more money.

The company confirmed this in a statement it released BEFORE Romney spoke Thursday, after numerous conservative blogs and news outlets began misinterpreting a story by Bloomberg News.

"Jeep has no intention of shifting production of its Jeep models out of North America to China," Chrysler spokesman Gualberto Ranieri wrote. "It's simply reviewing the opportunities to return Jeep output to China for the world's largest auto market. U.S. Jeep assembly lines will continue to stay in operation."

Much of the credit/blame for spreading the misinformation that ultimately reached Romney goes to the Washington Examiner, which wrote that Jeep "is considering giving up on the United States and shifting production to China."

The Examiner asserted that the move "would crash the economy in towns like Toledo, Ohio, where Jeeps are made and supplied, and rob the community of the economic security they thought Obama's auto bailout assured them."

For Ohioans being bombarded by political ads around the clock, there are plenty of reasons to be scared the closer we get to Election Day. Losing Jeep to China is not one of them.
